A nature lovers guide to the Southern Gold Coast

There’s so much more to the Southern Gold Coast than just world famous surf beaches. So when you need a break from the beach Look beyond some of the crowd favourites and head to  these natural attractions.

Natural Bridge at Springbrook National Park is an easy drive for a day out. For something truly unique though head there after dark to wonder at the natural phenomena. Magical glow worms can be seen dotting the rockface as well as luminous fireflies and fungi. It’s a lovely experience on a warm Summers night for a change of pace.

A little closer to town is the Burleigh Heads national Park. Offering perfect views of the Gold Coast skyline, access to hidden beaches and awesome swimming spots. The walk will take between 1-1.5 hours dependent on how fast you like to go. Pack some lunch, swimmers and towels and make a day of it, still one of the best walks on the Gold Coast.

We are definitely spoilt for choice when it comes to waterfalls in the Gold Coast Hinterland. However, one of our favourites and one of the lesser known waterfalls is Elabana Falls in Lamington National Park. Take the easy 3.5km stroll to access this amazing spot and enjoy these beautiful waterfalls.

For a truly unique and zen experience head south to Kingscliff  and experience ‘Mindfulness in the Mangroves’ Immerse yourself in the natural environment and reconnect with nature. Be guided through the mangroves on the paddle board and then experience a guided meditation in the mangroves. A basic level of Stand Up Paddling is required.

Lastly for a fun day out head to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and be amazed by the natural attractions at this iconic Gold Coast theme park. Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary is a Gold Coast Institution and perfect for families with younger children. Wander the 27 hectares and  get up close and personal with the native wildlife, including crocodiles, koalas, emus, kangaroos and reptiles. A holiday on the Gold Coast is not complete without a trip to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
