Top 6 spots to enjoy the Southern Gold Coast sunset

Sunsets on the Gold Coast

We have to admit, we have it pretty good on the Gold Coast!

When it comes to weather and beautiful beaches, we’re spoilt for choice.  In summer, the afternoons are balmy. In winter, rug up as temperatures drop and enjoy the absolutely stunning colour of the orange winter sunsets a little earlier. And don’t forget to look out for whales in winter.  You just might get a spectacular whale show as they breach off the coast during their annual migration.

After a quick poll of the sunset chasers in the Gold Coast Holiday Homes office, here are our top 6 picks, in no particular order because… honestly how do you choose?!

Greenmount Surf Club Sunset:  With a sprawling deck that stretches toward the beach, you’ll relish stunning views of Surfers Paradise while sipping your favorite drink.  Treat yourself to a post-work or post-surf rendezvous at Greenmount Surf Club.

Burleigh Hill – Burleigh Hill at sunset is the place to be seen.  Head down early if you’re going on the weekend as grass space can be sparse. Bring a rug, pack a picnic and enjoy people watching, oops we mean sunset watching at one of the Gold Coast’s favourite sunset spots! Conveniently, there’s a playground for the kids.

Kirra Hill – Perfect for panoramic views of the sun setting behind the mountains of the Gold Coast hinterland and stunning ocean views down the coastline. Watch the surfers at Kirra Point and in good swell, watch the waves peel down from Snapper all the way to Kirra!

Elephant Rock – For the adventurous souls willing to conquer the stairs, Elephant Rock rewards you with extraordinary views. Feast your eyes on the northern panorama that stretches to Surfers Paradise and gaze south to Coolangatta. The effort is worth it!

D’Bah – Standing with one foot in each state (Queensland and New South Wales), D’Bah offers a unique vantage point for sunset appreciation. Marvel at the stunning vistas while whale-watching during winter or witnessing surfers conquering some of the worlds finest waves.

Hastings Point Hill: This hidden gem on the Northern Rivers boasts gorgeous natural views that will steal your breath away.  With a large grass space available for a picnic, we recommend to pack a blanket & charcuterie board while you watch the sun gracefully sink below the horizon.  With views to Kingscliff to the north, and Byron Bay to the south, this sunset casts a kaleidoscope of colors across the vast expanse of ocean and sky.  Hastings Point has been a favorite sunset spot for local lovers for years, and will remain for years to come.

Wherever you choose to sit and enjoy an amazing sunset here on the Southern Gold Coast and Northern NSW, we’re sure it will be a feast for your eyes!
